BMW reveals the M1000XR prototype: 200 hp, 223 kg, 280 km/h

At BMW Motorrad, the M range will soon be enriched with a new member: the M1000XR, an ultra-performative version of the S1000XR, already renowned for its power. This raised sport-GT promises advanced performance that will propel you at full speed during your tourist trips.

BMW had recently announced the arrival of a novelty for this week, arousing the excitement of enthusiasts. Unfortunately, Internet users quickly discovered and shared information on social networks, thus revealing this novelty in advance. Sometimes in terms of communication, it is difficult to keep all the secrets well kept.

BMW today unveils the very advanced prototype of its future M1000XR, also known as M XR. This sportswoman Adventure high -end, based on the S1000XR, has significant technical improvements. Its design takes up the lines of the S1000XR, but with a more sporty touch. However, the decrease in the protection of the fairing can be felt in terms of vertebral comfort. Despite an announced speed of around 280 km/h, the M1000XR will not protect as much as a roadster.

The flanks of the fairing have been reworked and the fins, characteristic of M models, are integrated. These fins are intended to increase support on the front wheel during acceleration, thereby reducing the natural cable of the motorcycle. Thanks to this aerodynamic assistance, electronics (anti-Wheeling) is less requested, allowing better power transmission on the ground. However, in practice on the circuit, it is important to note that an experienced driver can often be faster on a less technological motorcycle than an average pilot on a machine highly equipped with fins.

The BMW M1000XR is now equipped with the online four -cylinder engine with Shiftcam distribution, reaching a power of more than 200 hp! The driving position may have been modified with the introduction of a different handlebars which incorporates mirrors at its ends, adding an additional touch of sportiness. The chassis, although no specific detail is yet available, has been lightened by 3 kg (for a total weight of 223 kg) in order to improve the power-weight ratio of this beast. In addition, the stirrups have been installed to offer fantastic power and braking force.

The new BMW M1000XR is equipped with the variable shiftcam distribution, thus offering a power greater than 200 hp, compared to the 164.5 hp of the S1000XR. Although the S1000XR was not lacking in power, this evolution towards the M1000XR gives it a more explosive acceleration. However, BMW has chosen to favor comfort and road approval rather than the search for ultimate sportiness, which led to a loss of the wild character of the first generation.

The M1000XR therefore promises to fill thrill seekers while offering a certain dose of comfort. It offers a straightened driving position and minimum protection. With this "beast", BMW intends to disturb the competition, including the Ducati Multistrada V4 Pikes Peak and its 170 hp, as well as the KTM 1290 Super Adventure S and its 160 horsepower, two motorcycles already difficult to exploit on the road, except on German motorways (Autobahn).
