The new KTM SMT, based on the LC8C parallel twin -cylinder of 890 CC, skillfully combines the characteristics of a supermotard and a tourist motorcycle. Its objective is to become the essential reference of its segment, by offering pleasure, versatility and a modernized formula, more technological than the 990 SMT.
In 2009, KTM introduced the concept of Supermotard Tourer with its SM 990, which then became the SMT. It was an imposing supermotard, with a few tourist motorcycle attributes for improved comfort during long walks. After having disappeared from the Austrian range in 2014, the SMT is making a comeback this year. During this decade, many changes were made to the SMT which today claims even more sportiness. In agreement with the motto of the brand "Ready to Race", the SMT is intended to be the ultimate weapon for coastal races and road rallies. As such, Julien Toniutti, the fastest French driver at TT and Road Race Expert, recalls that the SMT had won the Garrigues rally in 2013. Thank you Julien for this clarification! The current LC8C engine of 105 horsepower is not a monster of power, but it should be voluntary enough to propel the 194 kg dry of the beast, while offering an announced consumption of 4.6 l/100 km. The 15.8 liters of fuel should allow the motorcycle to travel up to 300 km.

Regarding the cycle part, it is between the Street and Adventure, with a redesigned and refined tank to provide better ergonomics to the pilot. This is associated with a saddle in one piece which allows great freedom of movement during conduct. The smoked bubble is aesthetic, but it does not seem to offer optimal protection to perfectly correspond to the "tourer" aspect of the SMT. The frame, with more compact geometry, approaches that of the models Adventure, while the tilted shock absorber and the extended oscillating arm offer a slightly tilted position forward. This position can still be adjusted thanks to an adjustable handlebar on a 30 mm range.

Regarding suspensions, the motorcycle is equipped with fully adjustable WP Apex suspensions offering 180 mm of travel (40 mm less than on a real trail), associated with 17 -inch rims. The saddle height is 860 mm, which may seem dissuasive for some. As on most models of the brand, the 5 -inch TFT dashboard is modern and allows you to manage very advanced electronics, with different engine modes and a curve traction control. The braking system has a curve ABS and even a
